Solomon – King of Israel, Author of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs

Summary

Solomon, son of David and Bathsheba, is remembered as the wisest man in the Old Testament and the monarch who built the Temple in Jerusalem. As Israel’s third king, Solomon ushered in an era of unprecedented peace, wealth, and influence. His story is told primarily in 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles, where he rises to the throne, asks God for wisdom, and expands the kingdom his father David established.

Beyond politics and architecture, Solomon is also revered as the author of several biblical books, including Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon. Yet, his life also carries a sobering warning—his foreign marriages led him into idolatry, splitting his heart and eventually dividing the kingdom.
